Wildlife Pond 1
Update on the wildlife pond being created as part of Maidenbrook Country Park.

It’s #WorldWetlandsDay so we wanted to share an update on the wildlife pond being created as part of Maidenbrook Country Park.

Cllr Alan Hall tells us: “Last month we were able to construct the wildlife pond within the Country Park some 40M x 20M. We have orientated the pond so that we have gained a wetland area to the south of the pond as well, which will aid the wildlife starting to frequent the park. We were greatly aided by Taunton Fire brigade who helped with the initial filling as a community project. There is more work to be done between now and end of March such as the laying of a pre-planted aqua mat on the slope area to the pond which gives us the aquatic plants which will enhance the appearance. There will be an opportunity for volunteers to aid in the building of a wall to the north of the pond as a retaining wall. The pond at present is restricted access, I am afraid, till the work is complete and water and ground have settled down but we are all looking forward to the next steps in creating this vital area for our local wildlife”
