Tesco Grant Could Help Boost Cricket Facilities at Hyde Park Sports Ground

West Monkton Parish Council is celebrating another opportunity to invest in the new Hyde Park Sports Ground, with the project selected for the Tesco Community Grants Programme.

The Parish Council’s application has successfully reached the customer vote stage, with the project seeking funding towards cricket training and grass cutting equipment. The equipment would help support the cricket facilities at Hyde Park Sports Ground, providing more opportunities for children and young people to enjoy and develop their skills in the sport.

The new Sports Ground, which officially opened earlier this month, includes a cricket square, artificial cricket square and three-lane enclosed cricket nets, alongside a rugby pitch, floodlighting and pump track. The facility has been developed to provide new opportunities for local people, with West Monkton Parish Council working closely with West Monkton Cricket Club, Taunton RFC and other sporting organisations to shape its future use.

Now, the community has the chance to help secure additional funding for its cricket facilities through Tesco’s customer vote.

Voting runs in participating Tesco stores from now until the end of November 2026. The project receiving the most votes across the region will receive £1,500, with £1,000 awarded to the second-placed project and £500 to the third.

Voting is simple. Customers receive one token for every transaction made in participating stores, with no need to purchase a carrier bag.

• Taunton High Street Express
• Priorswood Road Express
• Bridgwater Road Express

Every vote could help West Monkton Parish Council provide the equipment needed to maintain and develop the cricket facilities at Hyde Park Sports Ground, supporting opportunities for local children and young people to get involved in cricket.

The Parish Council is encouraging local residents, families, cricket supporters and the wider community to get behind the project and use their Tesco voting token to help bring this funding to Hyde Park Sports Ground.
