Meet the WMPC Team – Cllr Mark Besley
More #MeetTheTeamMonday where we introduce you to members of the West Monkton Parish Council Team, giving you insight into who they are and what they’re involved with by posing these questions:
What is your main responsibility?
What is the most rewarding aspect of being in your role at WMPC?
What surprises you the most about being part of the WMPC team?
Next up is WMPC Councillor, Mark Besley….
What is your main responsibility?
I am responsible for Highways on West Monkton Parish Council. If you have concerns about highways issues in the community please get in touch with us. Issues can also be raised by members of the public at our twice monthly meetings. We continue to interact with Somerset Council Highways regarding the numerous pot-holes, blocked gullies, overtopping streams and flooding in the parish however there is still much
work to be done. In the future, some highways responsibilities may be devolved to Parish Councils or Local Community Networks which we hope will increase action and speed up response times.
What is the most rewarding aspect of being in your role at WMPC?
It is very rewarding to work in a dynamic team to improve the quality of life of residents in parish of West Monkton.
What has surprised you the most about being part of the WMPC team?
The time that some councillors and parishioners are prepared to put into the benefit of the community has really surprised me in such a positive way – there are so many examples of people giving up their time and efforts to try to improve things around us, from simple actions like watering trees in the summer to litter picking around the community to engaging with developers and the council regarding the design of future developments that affect our day to day life.
