Key Points from November’s Parish Council Meeting
(full minutes available in due course on www.westmonkton.net)
- There is a public consultation underway around the creation of a new Taunton Town Council. Whilst there is a clear unparished area to be covered, the process could mean surrounding parishes, including West Monkton, become incorporated in whole or in part. You’re invited to have your say on this at: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/MDVZMPK
- The Parish Council took part in a walk around MH1 with District Council and Developers to agree the long list of required changes before Public Open Spaces could become ready for adoption.
- Recognising a new focus on building community, a new part-time Assistant Parish Clerk / Community Development Officer, Kate Welsh (Email: community@westmonkton.net) has been appointed.
- COVID rates across the county are very high and caution is advised. The Somerset Coronavirus Support Helpline continues to be available via 0300 790 6275.
- There were 2 flood alerts for Bathpool during October, managed with an emergency pump.
In addition to regular activities, the Parish Council continues to work towards:
- providing a safer route to school through the Country Park and finding a way to provide a safer crossing point at the bottom of Yallands Hill
- liaising with County Council to agree suitable locations for Speed Indicator Devices
- reducing traffic through the old A3259
- developing the new Monkton Matters community website
- finding a better use for the fenced-off land behind the Primary School
- establishing the Maidenbrook Country Park
- following up on flooding issues in Coombe and at New Cross
- seeing the St Quentin’s park play area repainted
- securing an electrical connection at Brittons Ash green to support any future events
- the renewal of the Neighbourhood Plan
- recommending a different location for the 5G mast due to be located at the bottom of Mead Way
- the installation of the planned play park at the Hartnells site
- obtaining sports pitches for the Community, West Monkton Cricket Club & Taunton Rugby.

- Ordered and handed out HiViz jackets at an organised bike marking event
