The PC had our regular meeting with SCC Highways on the 11th of this month. Here is a brief summery of what was discussed:

• The temporary (until Creech Castle upgrade is complete) 20mph speed restriction and weight limit through Monkton Heathfield on the A3259 has certainly had a positive impact on traffic but there are still too many vehicles using this as a cut through to avoid the re-routed A38 (Eastern and Western Relief Roads ERR/WRR). It should be noted that the Police cannot enforce speed limits until 3 months after the limit has been introduced. They are, however, monitoring the situation.
• SCC have asked the developers to install a speed indicator device (possibly near the Merry Monk) and the PC have taken delivery of a pole mounted mobile unit which will be placed at various locations throughout the Parish. Traffic (density and speed) monitoring is and will be taking place and any extension of the 20mph speed restriction will be considered in due course.
• SCC Highways are awaiting a detailed scheme design from the developers for additional traffic calming measures on the old A3259 which will further slow traffic through the village.
• At the Country Park the exits will be improved (quotes have been received and licences have been applied for) and it is also proposed that the pedestrian crossing at Yallands Hill could be improved using CIL money, but this is subject to approval from SCC, the developers and an acceptable quote.
