Casting an eye over Maidenbrook Country Park

Well, it has been a fairly busy time at the Maidenbrook Country Park of late, for
volunteers, visitors and smaller, wilder residents alike.

This year we are overjoyed to see the pond area flourish as aquatic life, in the form
of newts and tadpoles, takes hold. A pair of swans have also taken up regular
residence in the last few months, offering a heart-warming visual reward to the
regular visitor.

With the Events Area grass-seeded to form a natural carpet for young feet (both furry
and otherwise) and plans for wildflower meadows set to take off in the new year, our
plans for the park to offer that tranquil, green space are coming to fruition.

Introduction of a double hedge area will, additionally, create that all important safe
haven for birds and smaller mammals and we’re eager to get planting this winter.
We’re also delighted to report our ongoing collaboration with the Somerset Wildlife
Trust and extend our gratitude for their many ideas and insights around the park. We
look forward to introducing a number of nature-based activities for all ages, aimed at
encouraging our visitors to immerse themselves in learning more about and enjoying
the natural environment.

Recruitment of a Volunteer Coordinator spells additional support for existing and new
volunteers, offering a regular face-to-face point of contact for park visitors and a focal
point to bring park helpers together, whilst opening doors for new volunteers and
groups to get involved.

Our 30-acre site provides plenty of opportunities to join up, lend a hand and enjoy
the sense of community that the Maidenbrook Country Park offers. From fun with
flora & fauna to litter picking, perhaps setting up adventurous outdoor activities,
helping with community events or even promotion and photography – there’s
something to appeal to all!
