I am Laura, Engagement Lead Officer for NHS Somerset. Annie Golding (pictured above) joined NHS Somerset in January this year. As a recent graduate, this is Annie’s first career role and when I met her to support her visit to a practice last Saturday, I was thrilled to hear about her hopes for the future and how much she cares about her work in the Digital team.

Annie and I spent the morning together at Axbridge and Wedmore surgery talking to patients and their families about the benefits of the NHS app. What I enjoyed most about spending the time with Annie was seeing how personal and caring her approach to supporting digital access is. Annie took the time with patients to answer questions about using the app and show users of the app how to make it work better for them. As an engagement professional, it was a pleasure to spend time with a colleague so new to the workforce embodying empathy and compassion – seeing technology shared in this way made it feel very human indeed.
